From sharing the stage with Jerry Lewis, Grace Knight, Sophie Monk, David Campbell, Tom Burlinson, Rhonda Burchmore, Bobby Flynn, John-Paul Young , The Morrison Brothers, Tina Arena, The Idea Of North, Darren Percival, Rick Price, Katie Noonan and Kamahl, Malcolm Wood has some amazing musical stories to tell. As a trumpet player, band leader, singer and music director, Malcolm’s skills have taken him around the world performing in London, Canada, Denmark, Taiwan, New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa and Papua New Guinea with many amazing people. His smooth trumpet style, swinging vocals and dry wit make his shows a lot of fun and have made him a sought-after performer. But it is his love of jazz that keeps bringing him back home to perform regularly with his house band “The Bowery Hot Five” in Brisbane.
Performing every Wednesday at ‘The Bowery’ in the famous Fortitude Valley entertainment district over the last thirteen years, ‘The Bowery Hot Five’ have not only developed an amazing rapport, repertoire and repartee but a dedicated following who know ‘The Bowery’ is the place to be for the best hot jazz around.
Not limited to Brisbane, Mal Wood and ‘The Bowery Hot 5’ have performed in festivals and jazz clubs around the country including at Broadbeach Jazz Festival, The Brisbane Festival, Broadbeach Blues Festival, Sydney Harbour Jazz Festival, Valley Jazz Festival and many, many more.
Mal Wood’s Bowery Hot 5 features a superb line-up of Brisbane finest jazz musicians presenting fresh renditions of the great jazz standards full of humour and soul. Along with Mal, the Bowery Hot 5 features John Reeves – Piano/Accordion, Papa Joe – Baritone Saxophone, Stu Barry – Double Bass and Steve Francis – Drums.
These Swinging Cats, coming direct from the famous Bowery Bar in Brisbane, will be playing at “The Jazz Sessions” in Nambour on Sunday 26th June, 3:30pm. They will deliver a fun show of songs from the 20's to the 60's, playing all your favourite Jazz tunes. Come and see what all the fuss is about!
